We have heard so many kind things from the visitors to the WWSS. For example, one eight year old heard about our hats off 4 cancer program at the WWSS and convinced her parents to take her to the WWSS so she could give us a new kid's hat. They stopped in a store on the way, and she picked out two darling little hats and paid for them out of her allowance. She told her parents that the kids in the hospital probably did not have any toys to play with and they had to have some new toys with their new hats. She spent the rest of her allowance for a bag of new toys!

At the WWSS show one year, we had a super space right by the entrance. After the main rush (over 45 minutes) after opening (literally thousands of women), one lady came in and walked over to us. She said said that her child really appreciated their hats that they got and gave me a big hug. We both had tears in our eyes, She turned around and left. She only came in to thank us (the stylists) who recede the hats.

One older gentleman asked if he could get a haircut but would bring us a hat the following day. He was surprised that I trusted him. Who would cheat a child with cancer? The next day he brought a bag of never worn hats. It was his hat collection of every professional sport and college teams. Some were of teams that do not exist anymore. He commented," I hope that even if even one child enjoys one of the hats, it will mean more to me than having the hats".

A very elegant lady told me that she was a survivor. After she had finished her first round of radiation five years ago, she had lost all of her hair, was extremely weak, and felt very sick. She went back to work half days. No one would talk to her because they did not know what to say, and were afraid. That weekend she said that she went out and bought all kinds of hats; hats for her outfits, outfits for her hats, fun hats, formal hats, and even a few kids hats. She began wearing the hats to work, and the coworkers started to smile and talk to her. In fact, some people that she did not know, came by just to see what hat she was wearing that day. One person she did not really know even hugged her once every day. She said that her hats helped her fight the battle. So, she brought us a bag full of just precious kiddy hats!

Once we delivered a box full of hats to a hospital. They displayed the hats in their trophy case for all of the kids to see. The kids that were loosing their hair could pick out the ones that they wanted. One of the nurses stopped by our booth and told us how much the hats meant to the kids, and thanks us for them.

One lady gets her hair cut only once a year at the WWSS. She is always first in the door.

One young lady drove over 250 miles because she had heard about hats off 4 cancer at the Omaha WWSS. She said it was just great to get a haircut because she was a survivor and loving it. She came back to the show again this year to get her hair cut again.

On our first trip to deliver a box of hats, the nurse asked Kadie a 4 year old to come over so she could pick out a hat. Normally, we have the nurses give them out (the nurses are our special angels on earth). Kadie, with a tube attached to her arm, went through the box and took a winnie the pooh hat. I showed her another hat that was hand made with bright glowing colors. She give that look of "can I have two?" Of coarse I gently moved my head up and down to keep from crying. She Smiled. Her mother began to cry very hard. Later, she explained that Kadie had been in the hospital for over a year and this was the first time that she saw her smile. Needless to say, we saw the value of the hats. Next year, one of the nurses stopped by our booth at the WWSS, and told us that Kadie had a full head of hair and was "cured"!

We got an e-mail from a lady whose child had lost their hair due to the child's medication. At the doctors, she mention how hard it was to find toddler's hats. One of the nurses came back with an arm full of hats that hats off 4 cancer provided them. Her child (two years old) picked out two. On each hat we have the person that donates the hat write some words of encouragement. We attach the card to the hat. One of the hats her 2 year old child selected was donated by a person with the same first name as her child!

and we have a hundred more things to share with you.....

Margaret
